The New NO Xplode from BSN

In the last post I wrote about Fully Loaded Amplified Energy from LGI Supplements. Before that I posted another complete review of Fierce Domination from Sann. I also shared my thoughts on the new and to-be-released Craze V. 2.0 from Driven Sports. Before this I posted a review of the new PWO ENGN from EVL Nutrition.

Today its time to take a detailed look at NO Xplode 3.0 from BSN.

Now before we dive in, let me make it clear that its not actually called NO Xplode 3.0. The last one was called NO Xplode 2.0 and the one before that was called NO Xplode, so it’s easy to assume this new version would be called NO Xplode 3.0. So far I have seen it listed as; New NO Xplode, NO Xplode 3.0, NO Xplode Push. Either way, its the latest version, and the one that came after NO Xplode 2.0. BSN simply calls it NO Xplode as the former versions have been discontinued.

As NO Xplode 2.0 was one of my all time favorite preworkout supplements, I have been looking forward to the New NO Xplode, which is why I posted this preliminary preview of the new NO Xplode.

Now I have had a chance to test it, so I thought it was about time to share the complete review.

BSN – New NO Xplode 3.0 – Push
BSN is the company behind this preworkout and as NO Xplode 2.0 got really popular, people, including me, have been waiting patiently for the followup pwo to this. Now its finally here and from the initial look of it, everything seemded good, so I decided to get a jar of NO Xplode 3.0 and test it and share my thoughts here.

New NO Xplode Claims

—————————————————————————————

Unfortunately NO Xplode continues to be based on a prop. blend, and needless to say, one that is fairly complex to decipher. But lets give it a go. The Myogenic Matrix is a 5.5 gram mix of creatine and taurine, along with some AstraGIN which supposedly should enhance absorption (although I cant really find any specific information confirming this). Studies on Creatine typically suggests around 2 – 3 grams per day as an effective dose, which is probably what you get here, but its difficult to say exactly due to lack of information, and that the myogenic matrix also contains taurine and AstraGin.

The Endura Shot of 2.8 g contains a mix of Beta-Alanine, Beta-Alanine HCl, Betaine, some baking powder, magnesium and vitamin D. Again, I can’t tell how much of what you get here, but based on a personal experience, there is enough beta-alanine to get a good tingling sensation going with one scoop.

—————————————————————

Danshen Extract (Salvia miltiorrhiza), also referred to as Ch’ih Shen, Chinese Red Sage, Chinese Salvia, Dan Shen, Dan-Shen, Huang Ken is a Chinese herb typically used for the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Danshen Extract combined with L-Citrulline should supposedly have some vasodilation effects (http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1177/0091270005282630/full).

Grape Skin Extract is heavy on antioxidants and effective at lowering blood pressure. If you look at reviews on amazon for grape seed extract, you will see an endless stream of very positive reviews, where users claim benefits of all different sorts. However, based on the total dose of the N.O. Alpha Fusion mix, you probably won’t get a whole lot of it, unfortunately.

Phyllanthus emblica Extract is an extract from, well, the fruit of Phyllanthus emblica; a tree of the family Phyllanthaceae which is known for its tasty fruit of the same name. It has been used for anti-inflammatory and antipyretic treatment according to this (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21495900 ) study, the extract also has lipid-lowering properties, which is probably the reason for the inclusion in NO Xplode. Once again, the key question here is what dose you get from a serving of no xplode.

Crataegus Laevigata is also known as Hawthorn. It is believed that Crataegus Laevigata (or more specifically, a component in hawtorn called proanthocyanidin) will up the amount of blood pumped out of the heart during contractions, widen the blood vessels, and increase the transmission of nerve signals. Unfortunately there isn’t a lot of scientific studies on this, so I will leave it at that.

The 745 mg. Thermic Energy mix contains;

N-Acetyl-Tyrosine is Tyrosine with acetic acid which allows for better absorption. This substance has gained tremendous popularity in recent years, specially in the nootropic environment as its known to improve mental energy, alterness, learning capacity and general comprehension. But its also starting to show in more and more fitness and bodybuilding supplements. A typical recommended dose of N-Acetyl-Tyrosine is around 300 – 500 mg. and it in general considered to be safe when kept within these limits.

and some Caffeine Anhydrous, Grapefruit and PURENERGY™ which is a patented co-crystal ingredient comprised of caffeine and a synthetic pterostilbene ingredient pTeroPure which allegedly has 6 – 8 times longer half-life compared to caffeine alone.

The 680 mg. Shock Composite is a mix of;

DMAE Bitartrate (2-Dimethylaminoethanol); an often used but not well-researched substances that should be mildly stimulatory. Short-term studies have shown an increase in vigilance and alertness with a positive influence on mood when supplementing with DMAE – and because of this, often seen in nootropics.

L-Lysine HCl; Lysine is an essential amino acid and should supposedly have a positive effect on increasing muscle mass, lowering glucose, and improving anxiety but I am not sure why it was included here.

DL-Phenylalanine is beneficial for increasing energy and mental alertness, often used in nootropics and should probably be dosed around 100 mg per serving. It’s generally believed to be safe when kept around this dose.

I won’t go into details about Niacin and Calcium D-Pantothenate.

Toothed Clubmoss Extract (aerial parts) (1% Huperzine A); this substance is what has made Myokem’s Nitramine so popular. Huperzine A is, just like the above-listed substances, often used in nootropics, mainly as a memory-enhancing supplement which is also being investigated as a treatment for Alzheimer’s and age-related memory loss. It is believed to promote better learning, focus and neuroplasticity.

Pyridoxine HCl is Vitamin B6 which is found naturally in meat, eggs, fish, and other foods. It comes with many health benefits, and is needed for red blood cell production and amino acid metabolism.

Thiamin HCl or Vitamin B1 help the body convert food into fuel by metabolizing fats and protein. It’s also necessary for healthy skin, hair, eyes, and liver.

Cyanocobalamin or Vitamin B-12 is important to support the health of your metabolism, blood cells, and nerves.

That’s it. I think I got all substances covered. Let continue by looking at the results I have had with this.

Taste and Mixability
The new NO Xplode comes in the following flavors: Blue Raz, Fruit Punch, Grape, Green Apple, Watermelon. The jar I got was with the fruit punch flavor. The taste is okay, but not great. It got a very chemical-kind-of-taste to it, which is nothing new in the world of pre workout supplements. Its less sweet than the typical kind of fruit punch flavor, which is a good thing, in my opinion. If I were to buy it today, I think I would have chosen the green apple flavor, considering that it might be more sour (which is what I prefer). Green apple is also the one listed on bodybuilding.com with the highest rating, so that will be my choice next time. Mixability is alright but not great. What I mean is that a scoop of NO Xplode mixed with water in a shaker easily dissolves and leaves very little sediment, but the thing is that if you shake it you get a foam top which isn’t exactly delicious. Stir it, and this won’t be an issue, but I don’t usually carry a spoon around in my bag when on the way to the gym. Not a big issue, but something to keep in mind.

Effectiveness
The new NO Xplode from BSN is good. I like it. That’s the short version of it. I take it around 20 minutes prior going to the gym and it really does deliver. The pump amplifying effect is clearly noticeable, the energy is good and focus is second to none. Although we dont know the exact dose of the different substances, there is definately enough to get a good tingle going, and to give a good pump, energy and focus boost.

SideEffects
I have not noticed any side-effects from this, besides from a post-workout crash. It’s not the typical kind of pre-workout post-crash, which often leaves you with a kind of sad / depressed kind of feeling. There is none of that with NO Xplode. It just makes me very tired, and it kicks in pretty hard a couple of hours after ingestion. Because of this, you dont want to take this PWO, hours before workout. This is sometimes a bit of an issue for me as I enjoy late night workout sessions. So with some PWO’s, I take a serving a couple of hours prior to going to the gym. Sure I dont get the full effect from it, but it will still give me something. That is, in my opinion, a bad idea to do so with the new NO Xplode, due to this crash. But besides from this, I haven’t seen any noticable sideeffects.

Price per Serving
The cheapest price I could find was from All Star Nutrition, where you can get a jar with 60 servings for a total of $38.99 meaning that the price per serving will come out at $0.65 which in my opinion is a very fair price.

Ratings
I was a bit surprised to see that the new NO Xplode still hasnt been listed on SupplementReviews. The product has been hyped and heavily awaited by supplement geeks around the world, so I would have though it would be listed on the site on the day it was released, specially when they already have a stuffed BSN section and all the old NO Xplode products listed there. But unfortunately, its not so no rating from their end at this point. It is however, listed on bodybuilding.com, where its rated as excellent and a total score of 8.6 based on close to 4,500 reviews! Massive!

Verdict
I love it. But I am also a loyal BSN fan. The flavor is so so (fruit punch, that is – green apple ought to be better) and the crash I experience from the new NO Xplode are definately shortcomings but with that being said, I think there are more positive aspects to this supplement making it a good choice overall, in my book. Some people might find it a bit light on the energy level, and its a shame everything is listed as a prop. blend. But the price is very very fair (if you buy it from All Star Nutrition), the energy is good (enough for me), and the focus and pump effect are second to none! Finally and most importantly, I think its a rather safe choice to, which is not a matter of course these days.
