Assault Black from MusclePharm

Because of this, I was pleased to see a new version coming to the market named Assault Black. My first impression was that this would be something like the C4 4th Gen. Vs. C4 50X where the supplement facts are the same, just stronger in the latter version. This however, turned out, not to be the case. There are actually very few of the same substances used in Assault and Assault Black.

Below you will see a table listing supplement facts from the two supplements.

Substance Assault Assault Black
Vitamin E (as Alpha Acetate) 200 IU 200 IU
Vitamin C (as Ascorbic Acid) 500 mg 300 mg
Vitamin B6 (as Pyridoxine Hydrochloride) 15 mg 20 mg
Vitamin B12 (as Methylcobalamin) 90 mcg 500 mcg
Taurine prop. blend
Sodium 50 mg
Ribose prop. blend
Red Beet Extract High in Nitrates prop. blend
PurEnergy Matrix (Pterostilbene-Caffeine) prop. blend
Potassium 40 mg
Niacin 25 mg
L-Tyrosine prop. blend
L-Glycine prop. blend
L-Glutamine prop. blend
L-Citrulline DL-Malate 2:1 3 g
L-Aspartic Acid prop. blend
Huperzine A prop. blend 100 mcg
Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) Berry 200 mg
Glucuronolactone prop. blend
elevATP 100 mg
Dextrose prop. blend
CreNitrate prop. blend
Creatine Hydrochloride (HCL) 1.50 g
Coconut Water Powder prop. blend
Cinnulin PF® (Cinnamomum burmannii) Bark Extract prop. blend
Choline Bitartrate prop. blend
CarnoSyn® Beta Alanine 2000 mg 2000 mg
Calcium (as Calcium Silicate) 153 mg 72 mg
Caffeine Anhydrous 300 mg
BioPerine 10 mg
Beet (Beta Vulgaris) Root Extract 200 mg
BCAAs 3:1:2 (L-Leucine L-Isoleucine L-Valine) 1.50 g
BCAA Nitrate 3:1:2 Ratio (L-Leucine L-Valine L-Isoleucine) prop. blend
ArgNitrate prop. blend
Agmatine Sulfate 750 mg
(DMG) Dimethylglycine prop. blend

As you can see from the table above, both pre workout supplements contain same vitamins, and the same amount of beta-alanine but thats pretty much it. Here is a breakdown of the exact differences and similarities:

Vitamin C (as Ascorbic Acid): Assault black contains a total of 300mg and the original Assault contains 500mg.

Vitamin B6 (as Pyridoxine Hydrochloride): 20 mg in Assault Black and 15 in the original Assault.

Vitamin E (as Alpha Acetate): 200 IU in Assault Black and the same in the original Assault.

Calcium (as Calcium Silicate): Assault black contains 72mg calcium and the original Assault contains 153mg.

Vitamin B12 (as Methylcobalamin): 500mcg in Assault Black vs. 90 mcg. in the original Assault.

Carnosyn® Patented Beta-Alanine: Both Assault and Assault Black contain 2,000 mg beta-alanine. The right dose of brilliant substances.

Huperzine A: Both PWO’s also contain Huperzine A. In Assault Black we get a total of 100 mcg. In the original Assault we dont know how much we get as this is part of a 1,750 mg prop. blend.

In addition to these ingredients. Assault and Assault Black have a couple of closely related substances, although with minor differences. The first one of these is creatine; in Assault Black we get 1.5 grams of Creatine Hydrochloride (HCL) and in Assault we probably get around the same dosage but of creatine nitrate. Just as with everything else in Assault, we wont know for sure due to the use of a prop. blend. What we do know here is that we get 1.5 grams in the new Assault Black, and in the original Assault we get less than 2 grams as this is the weight of the partial prop. blend – which in both cases isn’t getting anywhere close to the clinical tested dosage for monohydrate. It might be that creatine nitrate and creatine HCL are more effective than monohydrate, but we also get less creatine as it’s mixed with other substances.

The second closely related ingridient used in both pre workouts is BCAAs. In Assault Black we get 1.5 grams of BCAAs 3:1:2 (L-Leucine L-Isoleucine L-Valine). In Assault we get an unknown dose of BCAA Nitrate 3:1:2 Ratio (L-Leucine L-Valine L-Isoleucine).

That’s it for the similarities between Assault and Assault Black. Besides from the above mentioned substances the two pre workouts also contain the following:

Assault:
Sodium 50 mg
Potassium 40 mg
Niacin 25 mg
L-Tyrosine prob. Blend
L-Aspartic Acid prob. Blend
Red Beet Extract High in Nitrates prob. Blend
(DMG) Dimethylglycine prob. Blend
Dextrose prob. Blend
L-Glycine prob. Blend
Ribose prob. Blend
Cinnulin PF® (Cinnamomum burmannii) Bark Extract prob. Blend
ArgNitrate prob. Blend
Choline Bitartrate prob. Blend
Glucuronolactone prob. Blend
PurEnergy Matrix (Pterostilbene-Caffeine)
Taurine prob. Blend
Coconut Water Powder. prob. Blend
L-Glutamine prob. Blend

Assault Black:
L-Citrulline DL-Malate 2:1 3 g
Agmatine Sulfate 750 mg
Beet (Beta Vulgaris) Root Extract 200 mg
Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) Berry 200 mg
BioPerine 10 mg
elevATP 100 mg
Caffeine Anhydrous 300 mg

There is definitely some good additional substances used in Assault Black, but in my opinion, the two supplements cannot really be compared as they are simple too different from a supplement facts perspective. I really like the original Assault so I am kind of keen on giving Assault Black a go, but that more because of the name than based on the profile of the supplement.

I plan on covering Assault Black and the supplement facts in further details, one of the upcoming days.

If you have tested the new Assault Black from MusclePharm, I would love to hear your thoughts on it. Just drop a comment below.
